AlphaVillain's 2015 Supernova Challenge [Full Ring Zoom]

    • AlphaVillain's 2015 Supernova Challenge [Full Ring Zoom]

Hello, PokerMarket! This year I'll be taking my first stab ever at Supernova.
My only source of income has been poker for a few years now and I've been successful at both cash games up to NL50 and SNGs up to $7 so far. I've had some success with MTTs too, but I almost never play them because of the variance.

      Some info about me:

I'm 23 years old, I live in Romania and I dropped out of college when I was 21 to pursue a full-time poker career after winning a little more than $2000 in a month from playing $7 18-man SNGs on PokerStars in a country where the minimum wage is less than $200 and around $375 to $500 for someone with 7 years of college. I never have and never will regret my decision.

I have been studying poker since I was 19 years old. My only source of income is still poker, only now I'm playing cash games and I'm planning on sticking with them because they generally have a higher winning potential and less variance than SNGs, but, in my opinion, they are also harder to master. However, nothing great comes without hard work.

This year I have one major goal for my poker career:
      Get Supernova status on PokerStars.
      Loading…
      ██▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒ 20%

Right now, I'm grinding NL50 full ring Zoom. I prefer full ring over 6-max because of the much lower variance, but I'll probably permanently move to 6-max in the future because there are more people playing it, but at full ring you even have trouble finding 10 NL100 tables with seats open and there is 0 Zoom population.

If you want to see a LAG in action at full ring, this thread is for you.

I started playing on Stars in March this year, so I didn't put in much volume yet.

PokerStars Graphs so far for 2015:

      NL25:

NL50 (gonna stick to my word and not show you the yellow line):

My graphs contain no yellow lines (the EV lines) and they never will.

      The reasons are:

      Display Spoiler
      1. Nothing good will ever come by looking at your yellow line. If it's below the green line, you will ask yourself why are you so unlucky. If it's above the green line, you will ask yourself when will a downswing come or think that you won money because of luck, not because of your skill.

      2. The current EV calculation method is extremely inaccurate, in my opinion. If a moron calls you down with 44 until the river in a 3bet pot and hits a set on the last card versus your AA, your EV will be shown as -100 big blinds, which is far from the true value. In an extremely large sample (like a few millions of hands at least) things might even out, but that sample takes years to build and your game is constantly changing, so I really see no benefit in checking the EV line. Ever.

    • Mess with the LAG and this is what you get:

    • Happy to read that you pretend to consume less Coke! Seriously, if you just kicked off your Supernova Challenge, why not cancelling it instantly and playing on a poker site with good rakeback and better/softer games?
I know the stars software is awesome but for me it is still $$$ > software and I am convinced that accomplishing this aim is not doable with stars. just my few cents. maybe you think about it as you just started.
+ post some pics of your setup to imagine how Romania is grinding!
    • Because 6-max has a lot more variance than full ring, and I can't really afford variance because I withdraw a lot for real life expenses and my bankroll is usually pretty short. PokerStars is the only site that has enough population to grind full ring.

This year I'll build my roll at full ring and next year I'll start playing NL100 6-max, possibly at another site.

Another problem would be that a ton of poker sites closed in Romania because of legislative issues (insanely expensive licenses and taxes), including most of Ipoker.

As for my grind machine, here it is (click for full image and then click "view source image" to see native resolution):

I assume you expected something like this :=D

    • Now that's what I call light bluff catching! I think his brain just farted. :/

As for the last hand you posted it looks like he is a nit reg that doesn't know how to play post flop.

I know its full ring but I don't expect your bluff 3bets to show a profit vs a guy like this. Esp since he is defending 55 pre (means he is almost never folding after raising from UT+1.)
